Next Sunday, Seventeenth Sunday of the Year
Next Sunday, 24th July is the 17th Sunday of the Year. In the Gospel (Luke 11:1–13) we hear how one of the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. In reply Jesus taught them them the model of all prayer as he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive every one who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.” As Dr Scott Hahn reminds us in his weekly reflection (see here) ‘The mystery of prayer, as Jesus reveals to His disciples in this week’s Gospel, is the living relationship of beloved sons and daughters with their heavenly Father. Our prayer is pure gift, made possible by the “good gift” of the Father—the Holy Spirit of His Son.’ You can find all Sunday’s readings here.
