Fr. Michael Morrissey R.I.P
Please pray for Fr. Michael Morrissey, one of our retired priests who died recently. Fr. Michael Noel Morrissey was born on 3rd December 1939 in Limerick, Ireland. He moved to England in his youth after finishing his schooling. Michael volunteered for service with the Royal Air Force from 1959 to 1963. After completing two years from 1963 to 1965 at Campion House, Osterley, he continued his studies for the priesthood at St Sulpice, Paris and was ordained for the Diocese of Portsmouth on 29th June 1970 at St Joseph’s, Havant by Bishop Derek Worlock. From 1970 to 1974, he served as an assistant priest at St Joseph’s, Havant. From 1974 to 1975, he served as an assistant priest at Christ the King, Reading. He served as a Naval Chaplain from 1975 to 1991. During his time as Chaplain, he served in numerous places, these included the Clyde Submarine Base, HMS Bacchante, HMS Dryad, HMS Rooke, HMS Drake, HMS Cochrane, HMS Nelson and HMS Daedalus. After his time as Chaplain, Fr Michael was parish priest of St Edward’s and St Mark’s in Windsor from 1991 to 2013. In 2010, he was appointed as Coordinating Pastor in the Great Park Pastoral Area. After his retirement in 2013, Fr Michael continued to live in Windsor, and was a supply-priest. We are grateful to God for his witness. He died on 5th October. Fr. Michael’s Requiem Mass will take place at 10am on Monday 24th October 2022 at St Edward’s Church, Windsor. This will be followed by a cremation at Slough Crematorium. There will be refreshments provided after the funeral in the parish centre.
