Thank you from CAFOD

Jo Lewry, CAFOD Portsmouth’s Community Participation Co-ordinator writes to thank everyone who took part in CAFOD’s Walk Against Hunger this Lent…

Thank you so much if you joined our Lent challenge to walk 5k every day for the 40 days of Lent and thank you if you sponsored someone. There were individuals, families, schools and parish groups all over Portsmouth Diocese who took part walking in solidarity with those around the world who walk many miles each day to find food.

The monks from Douai Abbey walked as community and raised over £1000 which is amazing. Fr Benjamin said that he was walking “to make aware that all around us people are struggling to feed themselves.” Brother Christopher said “For many years one could sponsor a wolf at a nearby conservation centre and even go on a walk with your wolf.  Unfortunately, that is no longer available. So, I thought we could give people a chance to sponsor a monk instead. There is such inequality in the world: there is enough food for everyone.”

Many thanks to the parish volunteers who organised a community Walk Against Hunger in their parish. Our photo shows parishioners from St Boniface parish in Southampton who walked on Saturday 9th April. Thank you to Danielle and Jane our parish volunteers at St Boniface for organising this walk.

The Walk Against Hunger has raised over £300,000 throughout England and Wales which is just fantastic and including parish collections for Lent fast day appeal and individual donations over £1 million has been donated this Lent. Thank you so much for your support this Lent, your care and concern for your brothers and sisters in need around the world is really appreciated.
