St Peter’s Church in Winchester officially launched its centenary celebrations last night with a stunning light show that lit up the church inside and out.

The opening event, titled Light of the World, marked the first in a year-long programme celebrating 100 years of the church. Visitors were welcomed by breathtaking light displays throughout the church, alongside live music, exhibitions and refreshments in the Pastoral Centre.

The theme of light was chosen to reflect the heart of the centenary year. We believe in Jesus as the Light of the World – a light for all people – and the events planned over the coming months invite everyone to pause, reflect and experience that light in different ways.

Fr Mark Hogan, Parish Priest of St Peter’s, said he was delighted to see so many people at the opening night and described the event as a fitting start to the centenary year.

The Light of the World exhibition continues over the next two days and marks the beginning of a year of celebrations for St Peter’s Winchester.
