Bishop Philip writes…

It was quite a weekend! On Friday, we had the Requiem Mass for Canon Gerard Flynn over in St. Michael’s, Leigh Park – may he rest in peace. You can read below the splendid homily that his life-long friend, Fr. Joe McNerney, preached at the Mass. Then, on Saturday, we had the great joy of Fr. Ryan Browne’s ordination to the priesthood in the Cathedral, with magnificent music and everything at its best. Besides his parents and family, there were parishioners and clergy from all across the diocese and from further afield. Our prayers for him. On Sunday, I went to Bournemouth for the 150th anniversary celebrations of Sacred Heart Church, with lots of parishioners present and of course the Oratorian community. And yesterday, we had our annual gathering of seminarians, with Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, some time together and a barbecue in the evening.

Meanwhile, welcome to this e-News for Tuesday 22nd July 2025. Let’s remember in our prayers Emmanuel Chituh and Richard Martin to be ordained deacons on Saturday 26th July. Thanks to Deacon Craig for editing this edition and to all of you for submitting your news stories.

In Corde Iesu
