Bishop Philip writes…
Last Saturday, I went to Westminster Cathedral for the Mass in which Bishop Richard Moth was installed as the new Archbishop of Westminster. It was a glorious occasion and the cathedral was packed. You can read his homily below in which he said, “Fan into flame the gift of God” and courageously live out the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a world crying out for hope. Nearly all the bishops of England and Wales were present, plus many of the bishops from Scotland and Archbishop Eamon Martin from Armagh. It was a joy also to see Cardinal Vincent and to bid him a happy and peaceful retirement.
Meanwhile, welcome to this e-News for Tuesday 17th February 2026. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday when we begin the great season of Lent. Let us pray this year for a real and deep renewal of faith this Lent, with many graces and blessings from the Lord for ourselves, our families, our schools and parishes and for our wonderful Diocese.
With all good wishes and an assurance of my prayers,
In Corde Iesu
+Philip
Bishop of Portsmouth
