Bishop Philip writes…
The war in Ukraine is four years old this month. Despite the tremendous cost in lives on both sides – some estimate two million soldiers – and despite the enormous push from Moscow, the invasion is still struggling to make progress. As NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte put it, Moscow’s advance is running at “the speed of a garden snail.” Leaving aside the unlawful annexation of Crimea in 2014, Russian troops have actually moved only about 30 miles into the Donetsk region, a testament to the bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian forces. However, as we pass this four-year landmark, let us redouble our prayers for an end to this senseless war and for progress in the peace talks.
Meanwhile, welcome to this e-News for Tuesday 24th February 2026. We are now into the first full week of Lent. Let us remember that Friday this week is CAFOD Family Fast Day. This Lent, may the Lord grant us many graces and blessings for ourselves, our families, our schools and parishes, and for our Diocese.
With all good wishes and an assurance of my prayers,
In Corde Iesu
+Philip
