Good Shepherd Sunday
Next Sunday, 8th May is 4th Sunday of Easter – or Good Shepherd Sunday – when we pray for vocations to all states of life and ministry in the Church, but especially focus on Prayer for Vocations to the Sacred Priesthood. In the Gospel Acclamation (Jn10:14) Jesus tells us “I am the good shepherd…I know my own sheep and my own know me. Alleluia!” In the Gospel (Jn10:27-30), we hear Jesus say: ‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me…” and in the Communion Antiphon we hear: “The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep and willingly died for his flock, alleluia.” Let us pray especially on Sunday especially for more vocations to the Sacred Priesthood for our Diocese, for all our Seminarians and those responsible for their formation and for those due to be ordained this year, Deacon James Lewis as a priest and Edward Hauschild and David Bateman as transitional deacons en route, God willing, to priesthood next year.
