Why do we need to fundraise?

The Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth relies heavily on charitable giving as a vital source of recurring income to support its charitable objectives. These objectives align with the diocesan ten-year mission plan: to be a Christ-centred Church, a missionary community, and prudent stewards of Christ’s Church.

The Diocese does not receive regular funding from either the UK government or the Vatican. It must generate all the income required to cover its ongoing costs through its own fundraising and operational activities.

Most of the Diocese’s income comes from gifts given by the faithful — last year, these made up 74% of what we received.
