Jenny LeLean, Head of Charity, Caritas Portsmouth reminds us that The Season of Creation will soon be upon us once again…

The Season of Creation runs from 1st September to 4th October, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi. The theme for the season is ‘Let Justice and Peace Flow’ from the Prophet Amos (5:24).

The need for action on climate change is ever more urgent. This year we are seeing extreme heat levels in parts of Europe and the US, fires raging across multiple countries and the world average temperature records have been broken multiple times this month.

The Season of Creation offers a time for us to contemplate our need to change and how we might do this in our parishes and schools.

Pope Francis, in his letter for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation calls for us to join together in our actions to prevent the worst from happening “like so many streams, brooks and rivulets, merging finally in a mighty river to irrigate the life of our marvellous planet and our human family for generations to come.”

To help we have created a specific webpage where we will share ideas, resources and events and please do let us know your plans as we would like to build a picture of activity across the diocese.  If you have run successful events before, please do let us know so we can share your ideas and tips. Further information can also be found at the  Season of Creation website.
