Thank you – from the Friends of the Holy Land
The Friends of the Holy Land (FHL) would like to thank all parishioners across the Diocese who raised £4,112.36 through the collections, for Christians in the Holy Land. Conditions continue to be extremely challenging. Please continue to remember FHL and those we support in your prayers.
FHL is a non-political charity, whose mission is to secure a resilient and enduring Christian community in the West Bank, Gaza, Israel and Jordan – the part of the world that Christians call the Holy Land. At the start of the 20th century, Christians made up roughly 29% of the overall population of the Holy Land. Today they account for less than 2%. Without support, the Holy Places of the Bible, the birthplace of Christianity, could become cultural museums with no Christian presence at all. The focus of the work of FHL is providing practical help directly to the most needy and vulnerable Christian brothers and sisters through a balance of funding immediate relief of emergency needs and practical small projects to help create a sustainable future in the Holy Land – most importantly to give them hope. FHL has a team of locally based lay and clerical professionals who identify and verify cases. FHL seeks to raise awareness of the challenges faced by Christians in the Holy Land, to encourage prayer on their behalf, to generate funds to provide practical help and to encourage visits to the Holy Land to meet local Christians.
