Bishop Philip writes…
This last week, I met with Andrea Hoyland, our diocesan CAFOD leader and also with Jenny LeLean from Caritas Diocese of Portsmouth. During the conversation, the Democratic Republic of Congo came up and the terrible situation there with the outbreak of the Ebola virus. I asked if there was anything we can do to help. Certainly, we must offer earnest prayers for the victims and for an end to spread of the virus. But I also know that many of us would like to do something practical too. After all, the Catholic Church is one of the most trusted institutions in the DRC and operates around 45% of the country’s health facilities. CAFOD is willing to help with this and below you will see a QR code. Through it, you can make a donation to assist with the relief efforts. Or failing that, you could put some money in an envelope marked CAFOD Ebola Virus Response and either place it in the Offertory basket at Mass or give it to you parish CAFOD rep.
Meanwhile, welcome to e-News Issue 536 (2026/20) for Tuesday 9th June 2026.Thank you for all who have sent in their good news from the parishes. In this month dedicated to the Sacred Heart, may the Lord bless you with His love during these summer days.
With all good wishes and an assurance of my prayers,
In Corde Iesu
+Philip
Bishop of Portsmouth
