Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth angered by introduction by BCP council of no prayer zones around Bournemouth abortion clinics

October 18th, 2022

A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) has been enforced around the British Pregnancy Advice Service clinic in Bournemouth by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, in a bid to stop protestors, including those praying.

“I am extremely saddened that BCP Council has seen fit to introduce no prayer zones outside abortion clinics in Bournemouth. To remove the right to peaceful prayer will end the lives of many innocent unborn children and take away the opportunity of parents to reconsider actions that they may regret and spiritually burden them for the rest of their days,” said Bishop Philip Egan.

“Human life is sacred to God. He alone is the creator of all things including human life. We have the right to come together with others and peacefully express our views. We support the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) campaign to ask the Home Secretary to protect our freedom of speech, assembly and religion.”
