Walk Against Hunger
On Saturday 26th March we asked parish volunteers to organise a community Walk Against Hunger. The Southampton Journey in faith group from St Joseph & St Edmund’s parish held a 5k community Walk Against Hunger around Southampton Common. Marina told me “We walked 5km from St Edmunds around Southampton Common and then back to the hall for tea and cake. About 16 people walked, others baked and helped at the hall. We raised over £110 cash on the day.”
Marie-Claude from Our Lady Queen of Peace in Southbourne used the prayer cards for their parish walk along the beach. In Faringdon the parish did a walk from Blessed Hugh to Buckland organised by JP Crilly. Fifty-seven parishioners took part in the parish Walk Against Hunger at St Joseph & St Margaret Clitherow in Bracknell and at the end they enjoyed tea and hot cross buns in the church hall. Maureen Thompson organised a Havant Pastoral Area walk. She told me “We walked from St Joseph’s Havant to Emsworth stopping for lunch at Warblington Anglican church where we warmly welcomed by the vicar, as we rested and ate our packed lunch. Along the way we stopped to do the CAFOD stations to pray for CAFOD’s development work. At the end of each station, we did a Hail Mary for peace in Ukraine. We were joined by Canon Jeremy and his dog plus other parishioners from Sacred Heart Waterlooville, St Michaels Leigh Park, Ss Thomas Emsworth and St Joseph’s. At the end of our walk, we were treated to tea in Judy and Mike’s front garden with tea and cake in the sunshine.” Thank you to everyone who took part in a community Walk Against Hunger. In the summer CAFOD parish volunteers in Maidenhead are organising a summer Walk Against Hunger on Saturday 18th June so look out for details in St Joseph’s and St Edmund Campion’s newsletters.
