Portsmouth Diocese e-News Issue 463
This is a picture that reminds us of the devastating war in the Middle East – and the one going on too in Ukraine. Let us redouble our prayers for an end to all this senseless violence and that all peoples may start treating for peace. Please say this prayer now:
O God of peace, who are peace itself
and whom a spirit of discord cannot grasp, nor a violent mind receive,
grant that those who are one in heart may persevere in what is good
and that those in conflict may forget evil and so be healed.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Welcome to e-News this week, as we move into late autumn – and also into the last weeks of the Liturgical Year. We have some inspiring saints to guide us over these next few days: St. John Paul II (today), St. Magloire, Saints Chad and Cedd, and Saints Simon and Jude. Let us ask them to pray with us for peace in the world. And don’t forget tomorrow: our diocesan Day of Prayer and Reparation for Life, a day especially to pray that the bill currently before Parliament that proposes legalising assisted suicide and euthanasia might fail. Oremus!

Our Lady of Montligeon
From the Bishop
Please join me tonight, Tuesday 22nd October at 7 pm in Sacred Heart Bordon for the launch of the devotion to Our Lady of the Holy Souls (Our Lady of Montligeon). Mass is at 7 pm. Fr. Paul Denizot, Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Montligeon was due to be with us but, sadly he is ill and won’t be able to be present this evening. In his place, he is sending one of the English speaking chaplains of the shrine. Fr. François-Marie Ande. The Shrine of Our Lady of Montligeon in Normandy comprises an impressive 130-year old basilica and is now a world centre of prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. It is a place of healing for the millions who go there on pilgrimage. After the Mass Fr. François-Marie will give a short talk about Montligeon and speak about the importance of prayer for the faithful departed. Prayer for the Holy Souls is a really important dimension of our Christian life. It is also a huge help to coping with the sadness of losing a loved one and the process of bereavement. I am very grateful to Deacon Kim Cabatana for taking this project forward on our behalf. For more about the Shrine, click here. [Image: NCR/Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de Montligeon]
