Tara Sharp, Assistant Headteacher and RE Leader at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Primary School in Woodley shares news of last week’s May Procession and Crowning of Mary at St. John Bosco Church in Woodley.

St Dominic Savio Catholic Primary School in Woodley held their annual May Procession and Crowning of Mary on Friday 1st May. This beautiful event has always been held in school but this year we wanted to share this wonderful occasion with our parish of St. John Bosco.

Each child brought a long-stemmed flower to school, and the children came together to honour Our Lady. We prayed together and sang ‘As I Kneel Before You’. The pupils processed around the outside of the church before returning to lay flowers at the feet of Our Lady.

Our thanks go to the talented flower arrangers from St. John Bosco Church in Woodley for their wonderful floristry skills. The flowers have been organised in a stunning display, and smell incredible in the church and the school reminding us of Mary’s coronation in Heaven.

Mr Carey also told the children that their efforts had inspired an anonymous supporter of the charity to pledge fifty pence for every £1.00 the children raised through sponsorship. The sponsorship total stands at £5,814 and with the generous pledge from the anonymous donor the total amount raised, bringing the total to under £9,000, meaning that five communities will benefit from wells built with the fundraising from the two schools.
