Bishop Philip writes…

The weather is hot at the moment here in Portsmouth! As we keep hearing on the news, the Met Office has issued an red weather warning for extreme heat, with forecasts suggesting temperatures could reach 38C (100F) in parts of England later this week. The warning is a way of saying that there are serious risks to health, with some disruption to daily routines and increased pressure on infrastructure. The heat is spreading from continental Europe where an extremely intense hot spell has developed. Some of our schools have decided to close later this week or are considering it. Because of the unusual conditions, Wednesday’s annual Schools’ Mass here at the Cathedral has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, welcome to e-News Issue 538 (2026/22) for Tuesday 23rd June 2026. Thank you for all who have sent in their good news from the parishes. In this month dedicated to the Sacred Heart, may the Lord bless you with His love and give us peace during these summer days.

With all good wishes and an assurance of my prayers,

In Corde Iesu

+Philip

Bishop of Portsmouth
