This is one of the photos I took during our pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and St. Carlo Acutis. It shows the upper part of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, which sits directly above the Lower Basilica built above the body of St. Francis. The basilica was built between 1230 and 1253 and is an early and important example of the Italian Gothic style, featuring bright, tall spaces and large stained-glass windows. Its walls and vault feature famous medieval frescoes, including the prominent cycle depicting the life of Saint Francis (frequently attributed to Giotto and his workshop) and works by Cimabue. Assisi was a glorious place to visit.
