The Basingstoke Canons

After seeing the photograph in the e-News about Canon Christopher Rutledge being Installed as a Canon at the Cathedral, Liz Murphy, Parish Secretary at St Bede’s set to thinking about the Canons with Basingstoke connections…

Looking at the photograph of the recent Installation of Canon Christopher Rutledge, we were reminded here in the Holy Ghost Parish in Northwest Hampshire Pastoral Area, that four of the Canons in the photograph served us here at St. Bede’s and Holy Ghost churches. Namely, Canon Christopher Rutledge, Canon Dominic Golding, Canon John Cooke and Canon Jeremy Garrett. Canon PJ Smith spent time here at Holy Ghost whilst he was a Seminarian. We also had Canon Brian Scoles, who was the Architect and provider of funds and Founder of Holy Ghost Church, Monsignor Canon Vincent Harvey, Canon Alexander Cory, Canon Brian Scantlebury, Canon Terence Healy and Canon Brian Murphy O’Connor, so a real wealth of Canons from here.
