Welcome to the e-News

Dear Friends,

In the light of the sad news we heard last week, I will offer the 10 o’clock Mass in the Cathedral next Sunday, 18th September, as a Solemn Requiem Mass for the Her Majesty the Queen. This will be a day before her official funeral, to be held at Westminster Abbey on 19th September. The Mass in the Cathedral was going to be our annual Civic Mass to which all the MPs and civic signatories of the city are invited and although the city authorities now have other plans and memorials on the day, I am still hopeful that many of our civic guests will be able to attend. Everyone is welcome. It will be an opportunity for us as a Diocese to give thanks to God for the long reign of Queen Elizabeth and to pray for repose, to pray for the members of the Royal Family, including the new King Charles III, and to pray for our country and the Commonwealth. I hope you will be able to come and join us for the occasion.

Because of Her late Majesty’s funeral and associated public holiday on Monday, e-News is likely to be published on Wednesday next week rather than on Tuesday.

With all good wishes and an assurance of my prayers,

In Corde Iesu

+ Philip

Bishop of Portsmouth
