Portsmouth Diocese e-News Issue 480

February 25th, 2025
st jp ii statue and gemelli hospital

We offer our thoughts and our prayers for the Holy Father as he lies critically ill in the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. On behalf of us all, Cardinal Nichols has written to him to assure him of the prayerful support of Catholics in England and Wales: “I assure you of the prayers of so many here in England and Wales. The prayers of the Catholic community are fervent and heartfelt.” Let us say a Decade of the Rosary for him today. Being at the Holy Father’s bedside reminds me in many ways of being by my father’s bedside a few years ago, hoping he was going to pull through yet trusting in God’s mercy and praying that His will be done.

Welcome to this week’s e-News for Tuesday 25th February 2025. Thank you for all the news items you have sent in from your parishes and schools. During this Holy Year, may the Lord renew us in hope and help us all to grow in holiness so that we can bring many more people to Jesus Christ through His Church. With my prayers for you all over the week ahead.

In Corde Iesu

+ Philip

Bishop of Portsmouth
